With the arrival of spring, it means baseball season is right around the corner. No longer will baseball fans be limited to drinking soda, water or beer if they do not sit in box seats. It is very clear that wine is the drink of choice for many sports fans and this season the stadiums have listened to the fans.
At Citi Field in New York City, the new home of the Mets, wine will be available in general admission seats at $9 for a five and a half ounce pour according to Andrew McMurray executive vice president of Zachys Wine and Liquor of Scarsdale, NY as reported in the New York Times. Aramark, the food and beverage provider has arranged with Zachys to develop a world class wine program for the stadium in both their public and private spaces.
David Howard, the New York Mets executive vice president of business operations said: “Zachys is a renowned New York institution, and its presence at CitiField advances our efforts to provide fans an unmatched hospitality experience in our new home. By complementing CitiField’s extensive menu with world-class wine selections, we will be able to offer new culinary possibilities for fans on game day, as well as those planning on attending nongame day hospitality events." According to Todd Sliss of The Scarsdale Inquirer, Zachys will be looking beyond the most popular brands to offer the newest, possibly undiscovered or undervalued wines to complement the wide variety of foods offered. Ten wholesalers will be supplying the wine based on Zachys recommendations.
If you are attending the Mets home opener on April 13, savor that glass of wine as you enjoy the game!
