So you say you have heard of the Baltimore Orioles baseball team, but you have never heard of the Grand Marnier Club? Believe me, you are not alone. This non-exclusive club, by that I mean it is open to everybody and anybody, is located in a tiny building on a small street near the Inner Harbor of Baltimore in an area called Fell’s Point. Have I piqued your interest? Let me continue. This unique club is part of One Eyed Mike’s Restaurant. According to the owners, this is how the Club works: “When signing up for the Club, a bottle of Grand Marnier is reserved on your behalf, in an assigned space on the shelf. After joining the Club that bottle’s consumption is only controlled by the member. So, when you’re at One Eyed Mike’s, you call the shots so to speak. You have your own reserved bottle. If you want to bring in all of you friends and say “This rounds on me” or simply sip one by yourself, you’re in charge. The GM Club has an original set of bylaws voted on by the charter membership, a monthly newsletter and monthly meetings. Anyone can join and everyone is welcome.
We have members that are fanatical about Grand Marnier and we have members that, before the club, had never even tried it. Not only do we have local members that live here in Baltimore, but our membership reaches places as far as New York, Ohio, Nevada, Florida and Munich, Germany and of course Paris, France. They all just want to be a part of something special and this club fits just right in.”
If you happen to be in Baltimore or decide to make a trip to visit the First Grand Marnier Club, you will be greeted by a friendly wait staff, a large selection of beers, good wine and a casual and diverse menu. I am going back for the Five Alarm Chili.
