A Bottle Tree is Not Your Ordinary Tree

Have you ever wondered if there was a better use for wine bottles than depositing them in a recycling container? There are some bottles that are associated with special memories that you want to hold on to as a keepsake – a special birthday, your engagement, graduation. Depending on the number of bottles that are special to you, you can certainly find a place to store or display them in your home.

However, Bill Lipsey from Sunflower, Mississippi has created a new decorative use for your wine bottles. It is called a Bottle Tree. The concept of the bottle tree originated in Africa where it was believed that bottles suspended from trees would attract evil spirits when the sun glimmered through the bottles and the evil spirits would be trapped inside the bottle.

If trapping evil spirits does not intrigue you, possibly having a unique sculpture in your garden may be what you have been looking for. The trees are five feet tall, can be used almost anywhere and are easily moveable. They hold between 8 and 25 bottles. They are constructed from smooth, hot-rolled round rods and are shipped unpainted to allow a rusted more organic appearance, although customers have painted them in many different colors.

According to Mr. Lipsey: “Best of all, bottle trees don’t die! They never need water or fertilizer. Your bottle tree will always be in full bloom, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!”

The bottle trees are handcrafted right in the heart of the Mississippi Delta and have already become a Southern tradition.

As you enjoy that next bottle of wine, rather than recycle, maybe you will be the first of your friends to own a Bottle Tree.
