What does it mean when a wine is sweet or dry?
The sweetness of a wine is defined by the level of residual sugar left in the wine after fementation. A sweet wine has a noticeable level of sweetness caused by the presense of higher levels of residual sugar. A dry wine has no indication of sweetness, therefore no, or very little, residual sugar. An off-dry wine is one that is slightly sweet.
