What is the difference between a Shiraz and a Syrah?

The same grape is known as Syrah in France and Shiraz in Australia. The name Shiraz for this grape variety is also commonly used in South Africa and Canada. In the United States, it is found under both names depending on the winery.

What is a good inexpensive American wine to drink with pasta with sausage and tomato gravy?

Photo

A smooth, full-bodied red with some bright acidity will stand up really well to a pasta with sausage and tomato gravy. Tin Roof Merlot 2005 is rich in body with flavors of dark fruits like plum. This California wine is very versatile with many foods especially the classic Italian dishes. From the opposite coast, the Raphael Merlot 2005 from Long Island, NY is another wonderful choice with similar dark fruit flavors such as cherry and plum.
