The same grape is known as Syrah in France and Shiraz in Australia. The name Shiraz for this grape variety is also commonly used in South Africa and Canada. In the United States, it is found under both names depending on the winery. The Shiraz/Syrah grape produces wines that are often described as peppery, spicy, and ripe in flavor.
