Does the indentation on the bottom of the bottle indicate how good the wine is by the depth of the indentation as a friend indicated the deeper the indent the better the wine?

The indentation found on the bottom of most wine bottles is called the punt. The size of the punt can vary widely. Some say that it was originally introduced to make it easier for the hand-blown bottles to stand up straight. Others believe that its purpose was to trap sediment in the wine. Some of the cheapest bottles used for table wine may not have a punt at all. Whereas, some top producers do use heavy bottles with large punts. So, there may be a looses correlation between punt size and quality. Although, punt size should not be used as a factor to determine the quality of the wine.
